Systematic Review of Early Intensive Behaivoral Interventions for Children With Autism
Howlin, Magiati and Charman has also published a review of the research done on Early Intensive Behavioral Interventions (EIBI) for children with autism. This review is published in American Journal on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
This comprehensive review concludes along with the review of Reichow and Wolery (2008), that:
there is strong evidence that EIBI es effective for some, but not all, children with autism spectrum disorders, and there is wide variability in response to treatment
And this reviews recommendations for future research are along the same lines that others have proposed; more randomized control trails, more standardized and comprehensive data across groups, using the ADI-R and ADOS for diagnostic purpose, and measurement of family functioning.
